About Bharu

Who am i?

Let’s say that I am someone with an inexhaustible vocation for the millenary chinese arts. It is an arduous, non-linear, paradoxical path but when the heart beats strong, an immense force emerges that arranges the genuinely elective in this existence.

And at that sign, I could not help but surrender and grant him my redemption, gratitude, total blessing and commitment.

My destiny had found me. Welcome!

General bio

For more than 25 years, I have been walking, teaching and sharing the path of the Zen Arts and Traditional Chinese Medicine; essentially Qigong, Meditation and Kung Fu.

At the age of 8 years old, was my first class, and after that practice, in that specific moment I felt a deep call in my heart, which indicated to me that this was going to be an essential and structural part of my direction in this existence.

During the journey, I created Aknanda Qigong Academy, which helps people to maximize human potential by exploring new skills and competencies, oriented to improve health, physical / energy conditioning, regulate emotions and self-knowledge.

With an international career, he has shared his experience in Argentina, Costa Rica, Italy, Thailand and Vietnam, through Workshops, Retreats, Classes and Teacher Training.

Currently, its base and home is located in the beautiful blue zone of Nosara, Costa Rica, where most of its activities take place.

Masters & Teachers:

On the road, I had the opportunity to practice, learn and share with several Masters,Teachers and Monks to whom i send my gratitude.

Koio Samadhi, Leandro Godoy, Chen Shixing, Ajahn Toh, Shi Heng Yi, Tevia Feng, Jiang YuShan, Leo Imamura and more.

Encounter with the Ancient East

At the age of 8 he began the practice of karate, the first direct experimental contact about what the ancient oriental world could offer him, in his hometown Buenos Aires Argentina, year 1991.

First trip to Asia

At the age of 16 he had his first experiences in meditation, together with his mother, apractitioner of yoga, when it was not a usual activity. That same year, he made his first trip to Southeast Asia, where he obtained the first direct encounter with buddhist teachings.

At the age of 21, he received his first black belt in kick boxing, a discipline that he transmitted for 10 years, as well as participation in competitions at the end.

At the same time, the practice of kung fu was already a core part of his day to day (shaolin systems and wing chun).

The birth of the name Bharu

In the Zen Dhammapada temple, he finds the possibility to learn and practice buddhism, taoism and zen, through meditation, martial arts and conversations with his fellow Sangha (Buddhist community of practitioners). There, it receives its Buddhist name (Bharu Janman).

In those instances, he already taught classes and workshops at the end.

Studying Traditional Chinese Medicine

Over the years, time and dedication to the practice of internal qigong, taichi (neigong) began to penetrate strong in his personal search, as well as the study of traditional chinese / asian medicine: (acupuncture, herbs, shiatsu).

Over the past 10 years its focus has been on health, well-being and spiritual development through these instruments.

A New Qigong doctrine is Born

In 2016 he created and structured the methodology of Aknanda Qigong, finding synthesis and integration in both Buddhist and Taoist systems, with the aim of offering a solvent syllabus that rescues the tradition; that adapts to modern times and raises the quality of education.

Bharu, (Juan Martín Torchiaro) has had the opportunity to study with different Masters, training and practicing in Monasteries and Temples in China, Europe and Thailand.

At present

In march 2023, he was invited to dictate a practice and conversation of Qigong and Zen at the University of Peace (created by the UN), in San José Costa Rica.

Currently, he acts as a teacher, therapist and speacker summoned by students of the Academy and also by organizations. Its work is carried out online, and direct transmission, mainly in his base home Costa Rica.

Maintaining the enthusiasm to learn, refine and evolve in the field; He sustains his practice and training daily since he considers that if art is not alive in the everyday, it dies, like withered flower petals.
